okay here is the deal
yes he lost his voice and had his face scarred in the helicopter accident where he was trying to save Scarletts life
in the snake eyes trilogy story--- somewhere around issue #90 of the original Marvel series---- he gets major plastic surgery done and looks almost perfect.
in the same storyline scarlett gets shot in the head , while she is in a coma snakeyes manages to utter her name SCARLETT , the first words he has spoken in years.--- and the last until this date
also the early marvel episodes shows Snake eyes with word balloons like this "........" this was suppose to be somekind of sound ( so says Larry hama) perhaps it was just a wind sound resonating from this vocal cords or something it was never explained by larry other than he pointed it out and said exactly what I said above ( in the old letter colums)
also people who cant talk whether they were born like that or not opens thier mouth all the time especially in times of excitement and with people who lost thier voices do to an accident, its more a reflex than anything
For the record DDP did suggest his face got wrecked again by SEI TAN, but then ignored that and went back on that to say nothing had happend

Doesn't he have a rubber face mask underneath his hood? Although I guess wearing both at once wuld be a bit weird. Maybe that was pre-surgery. Wasn't there a Special Missions mini where Scarlett and Snake-Eyes pull in to a convenience store for some talcum powder to stop his mask itching?

That's his slide projector. He has little thumb button that lifts the slide out of the viewer thingy, rototes the wheel of slides one notch and then drops in the next slide.
So nyer.

They'll be in the US GI Joe comics - I expect someone here will know, but if not you could always plough through the Yojoe comics archive / ask at their boards.
IIRC it was in the Stalker / Snake-Eyes / Storm Shadow / Wade Collins (CG Fred) Vietnam-flashback story arc.
