Jesus that's mad I have been watching it on the news over here, I love the sun and I am a bit of a sun junkie but not that hot about 30 is good for me.

Nearest fire was about 20Km's from here. Last weeks were a lot closer, about 5km's. There's half a dozen big buggers burning further north. Up to 76 confirmed dead now. Previous worst fire was Ash Wednesday, 35 dead. That statistic is well sunk now.
Melbourne itself is not badly affected, its the nearby towns that are suffering. If it ever burned here, it's be like the fire of London. Considering how tinder dry it is, it really is a little scary. You know its bad when it hits international news.
Temp is only 24 today. I'm really at a loss, its quite surreal. Still, in NZ we had Volcanoes and Earthquakes. It doesn't matter where you live. sh*t happens.

This kinda brings things in to perspective a bit, all this happening in OZ and Engalnd suffering because of a wee bit of snow (with the BBC spin on it of course)

108 dead so far. 2 big fires are confirmed arson. Perps are looking at 25 years to life. Firefighters will be flying in from New Zealand and also more support from NSW. Wife's just told me the fire bomber helicopter is back over our house. I'm assuming its heading for Langwarren, about 10kms away. Some spot fires there last night.
One whole town is gone. Marysville. Was planning on going up there 2 weeks ago. Also Bendigo has been hit, tho not near as badly.
Western Victoria is largely unaffected, mostly Northern and Eastern Vic and Ballarat has not been near the big fires as far as I know. The Great Ocean road is a beaut drive, Jonesy. Even I can't get over the size and flatness of this country, and I've been here 20 years.

The arsonists are guilty of "mass murder" the PM says. Couldn't be more true, but will they ever catch them?

I hope so. The destruction that they have caused is unbelievable and totally unforgivable.

173 dead as of this morning. Melbourne is in a stunned silence. Very quiet this week.
Two suspected arsonists have been arrested already. One arsonist was seen in Narre Warren and I have no doubt he'll be caught. He destroyed 6 houses about half an hours drive from home. I think the fires around the corner were deliberate too.
Glad I don't live up there any more. We peaked at near 48 degrees on Saturday, I figured it was going to be bad, fires and all. But no one expected this. Police and Army are going door to door (rubble pile to rubble pile) trying to find and identify bodies. Over 700 houses gone, 2 towns are just flattened.
I saw a picture of a panel van that had been driven into a dam. The paddock behind it was scorched black. Back door open, nose in. I would imagine the driver had a car load of people and just drove straight in to beat the fire. Car was OK, so I suspect he would have survived.
This chopper has been making more and more appearances lately. Even Stormy is gob smacked.
Cheers
Mark
