Thanks jjs. Glad you like them.

Perun, the Red Star custom, is a Salvo head and a 21st Century Toys 1:18 scale US ww2 Soldier(regular infantry; not tanker or paratrooper). The body armor on the final version is from marauder.

I like you commando, he looks very sinister. If you're still looking for Kamakuras, I might have a pair to trade.

If you don't want to end up with an army of Dragonskies, there's an ebay seller (id sicdunbine) that has lots of recent loose joes at very reasonable prices. His shipping's $5 for the first fig +$1 extra figs to the US, which is not bad for an asian seller; and he ships pretty quick. I think his Misha and Gorky are $3-$4 and he might still have a comic pack Schrage and Brekhov.

I finished painting my Marauder gear (except Horrorshow's RPG):

Paint recipe: #1) Base coat Krylon Ultre Flat Black, #2) gun metal drybryush coat, #3) brown 'wood grain' detail, #4) acrylic matte finish sealer.

hi, those look great what company makes the woodgrain paint?

it's not actually wood grain, it just brown. I paint a light coat so it doesn't completely cover the black. The brown (lighter) over the black (darker) brings out the grain in the sculpt of the marauder weapons. This trick works for almost anything, the lighter top coat creates natural highlights and shadows. It's the same technique I use to make the guns 'metallic': a black base coat with gunmetal(lighter) highlights: it catches the tips of barrels and scopes, small levers and bolts; just enought to make the gun look 'real'.

Heretically, the Oktober Guard take me back to winter 86 (or was it 87)? Featured in a loony strip in the UK Marvel comics, best thing that ever happened to me at that time (apart from the strip with the fox in the non Flint-fugger storyline involving the Bruce Lee dude). These customs took me straight back to that place. Not that I necessarily wanted to be there. The Hindu Kush excites conflicting emotions in me. But all the kak about the East-German AA cannons and engines was spot on at the time. As was the artwork, replete with lazy arcing rocket-cannon emblazoned Hind muppetry.

So were the Oktober Guard a comic construct or a GI Joe by-line back then?

Curiously

and then became a part of the joe verse as the oktober guard and red oktober on the cartoon series.
do you have any issue numbers of the issues you mentioned i would like to hunt them down.
