i think you'll find the doofus was the later edition 'ombre rossa' the multi-language packaging came to the forefront when all production and packaging moved to france toward the end of palitoy, multi-language packaging used as shipping to other countries became far less expensive.

See! You're all telling me what I thought too! And the idea of them being the later ones all makes sense! But that's just because we've assumed it to be the case for so long!

But if that's the case why are so many of my Dufus era ones on Commander Mailaway cardbacks and (I bet!) a lot of other peoples Dufus/Harder plastic ones are too! I will be the £1.50 I already owe CHopper that if we survey it there will be more of the harder plastic ones on Commander Mail Away Cardbacks, than there are on later issue multi language....

I had a dufus variant of a Red Wolf, Steve. The arms and legs were the pinkier-red and bendier than the others. My money is still on a second, sub-standard, production plant.

Dufus on the left. He has thicker soles, better gripping hands, a smaller head with a less pronounced beak and an eyeslit paintjob akin to Downs Syndrome. Also note the black 'braces' have no gap where they meet the shoulder black. The red was slightly pinkier, and the whole feel of the plastic is rubbery and bendier. His bazooka and ammo box accessories were similarly flexible.

I'm liking this idea of blaming the French.

This is really confusing. The theory has 'legs' for now. :drumroll:

But the Dufus era - at least on the shelf - coincided with the bendier tasselled- Morris dancer versions of :stake: mich myself :quick: usw with the later wave rather than the earlier plain 'olive' drab-style legs. And, in general, those thicker soles all round. So how does this association get reversed?

Meertoh's point about the moulded insignia is spot on. And the Baron's about the other production plant.

Maybe it's all about disorganised manufacturing and distribution and shifts in production. Whereas before it looked like one plant had messed with moulds and the plastic mix.

Always, and with extreme prejudice.

PS. What's all this about Buffy? I can, I can't?
