I thought it was great, but I do think three films is a bit excessive for one book even if the third is based on extra stuff. Still looking forward to seeing the next films though. :D

I found it really enjoyable - although some of the changes to the book seemed a little odd (in this case, omissions rather than additions).

The sheer length of these films puts me off, at nearly three hours long it sounds a bum numbingly long time to be sitting in a cinima.

It didn't feel like nearly three hours (despite the bloke in front of us who laughed at every flippin' line).

At my advanced age I'd definitely need a wee break half way through.

Is that a small break Ed or a need to make your bladder gladder? I'm a bit cynical about the Hobbit being a trilogy but just as long as it still has Smaug being the major threat I want to see it. I have seen a Legolas figure packaged for the Hobbit but don't remember if he was meant to be in this.
Spock, where the hell's the power you promised?

One damn minute, Admiral

I adore the LOTR Trilogy, it made for three great Christmas cinema trips with friends and family and I loved all three!. I'm 50/50 on this one. My main problem with movies nowadays is actually how much they give away in the trailers! I mean, come on, a trailer that's a minute and a half to two minutes long! Just tease us, don't outline the entire plot and show us every scene including the finale!
I reckon I'll go and see this at Christmas, but as discussed here, normal 2D will do me fine. 3D makes my bum go funny.

How many here have read the book? Not sure but I'd bet most LOTR fans already know the plot. :-)

FFS They better not flesh it out with Tom Bombadil.
