i thought i'd ask the question ;what floats your boat?

i've taken inspiration from many of the fantastic collections on here in the past and for the future, when i first started collecting Action Force and i'd looked at the amazing displays from Aire, SteveD and Paulitoy to name but a few, it really spurred me on to go for it. recent stuff from thundershot and paul463 have taken me on another path to toy heaven and have given me all sorts of great ideas.
i don't think it's the how much you have it's for me personally the quality of the dislay or collection and the time and effort taken into getting the toys together.
although i haven't named more i think most if not all the collections on here are fantastic, as i understand the commitment needed for this hobby.
a bit philosophical i know but well...

Well it was BFTB that got me collecting Action Man, it's even got me buying some of the Hasbro stuff which I had never had any interest in previously.

When I got into collecting 2 years ago it was with the sole aim of getting some of the loose stuff that I didn't have when I was a kid. Then I logged on here and was introduced to the wonderful world of MOC! Then I saw the German stuff and got hooked too, then series 3.......................

My Am collection reallys tarted when I saw the 40th stuff. Only wanted the SAS sets to try and replace the toys that I foolishly sold and the rest is history.

And like Eddie I was inspired by other people collections, SteveD and paulitoy for the MOC side, Paulitoy for the AM stuff. Also remember in the early days seeing one of Baron's photo's of his loose Z collection and thinking it looked cool and wanted to have a set up like that too. These are just a few names other should be listed here too.

And what does the future hold? After seeing Thundershots Lead soldier collection perhaps some more of that. Or may just help GF463 with her collection of Corgi diecast planes!

Joining GIJoeUk got me started in trying to get my Cobra High Command collection based around one of Marvel's GI Joe comics. But coming on here (Jamar's fault he enticed me!) has inspired me to get back into the Palitoy Action Force range particularly the Red Shadows.
Some members like Andy and ScoobyDie have inspired me to do customs based on their collections as has Jamar's Red Dawn comic and the Colouring Project.

My collection started years ago in 1986 with Destro and before then with the Black Major, Red Laser wrongly packaged with the ShadowTrak and some AF Pilots. It wasn't until 87-88 I got a couple more GI Joe figures then nothing until Battle Corps and Star Brigade were released my attention dwindled shortly after but I would read the UK reprints of GI Joe. In 2001 or so the new ranges came out and this is where the bulk of my collection was formed as well as mainly buying off e-bay especially when the figures were taken off our shelves once again.

My goals have expanded a lot some have been completed whereas others have got harder like completing my Oktober Guard and founder roster of GI Joe for instance.

This post actually made me do a quick search back to see roughly where I was with my collection when i joined up here to see if I could actually blame BFTB...and the answer is "not really"

believe it or not those photos were actually taken in my then bedroom! Which I can categorically say is the first time I posted photos of some boxes in my bedroom on the internet! [this 'joke' relies on "box" being a euphamism for the 'Lady Garden' all over the UK - not just in the North East].

Ahem, anyway. Whilst I was already addicted when I joined here I think it's safe to say BFTB poured petrol on the fire - I no longer felt like I was collecting in a vaccum and it certainly inspired me to army build, and opened my eyes to the later stuff too.

It was this place that convinced me to branch out into picking up the Action Force again after years of Star Wars and kinda rejuvenated my collecting passion after it took a bit of a beating. One day I might have something worthy to display.
