i can't eddie i just can't bring myself to do it, if i get another then i will for certain.......well maybe :-?
The Baron wrote:If you're planning on ripping one apart, I really want to make a flipper-gripper figure stand by taking a mould of the yellow back panel!

that would be ideal, one of the reasons i've been held back on doing it myself is that it realy needs to be cut and modified slightly to get a mould that will work relatively well unless im just being thick :?: but i realy don't fancy cutting mine up :-(

Not sure how expensive it would be, but could you mould it as is, cast a copy, cut that up and take a second mould? That way if the process goes wrong you won't have to find another piece to work on.

Using the stuff I use to cast I think I could take an impression of the part we need, and then use that to merge with a regular figure stand to form a master mould? Not sure I'd be able to cast them in a totally clear plastic though as I think the resin i use is a little yellowy if you dont add a coloured dye to it. I could always dye them black if people preferred. I'd have to have an experiment.

Squad Leader - if you plan on doing it let me know, as dont want us duplicating each others work, and you are the Forums King of Stands!

Looking a bit more at the pics I think the best way of doing it would be for me get a prototype of the flipper gripper bit, that I can then make lots of. These could then be glued to a blank stand? Then we could either seek out some blank stands (Squad Leader - over to you mate!) or I could simply supply the Flipper Grippers and people could glue them on to the stands themselves?

Another one to add to the list it seems! (going to be another month or so until i can get some more supplies I'm afraid!)

A Flipper-Gripper sound vaguely rude to me...

its a good idea Baron, the only thing is the moulding material is quite costly and will use quite a bit for this mould especially doing 2 two part casts, plus when you cast the mould the resin actually shrinks slightly or the mould material does one of the 2 anyway, so when you come to do the second the footholes will be even smaller than the first not a lot were only talking a mm or2, the resin can also be quite fragile when set so i dont know how sturdy it would be squeezing the flippers in. steve may have a better way of doing this than how im looking at it.

If i get the time this weekend i'll have one last go at an idea i had which failed the first couple of times from shrinkage, but this time im going to cast the part which would hook over the feet and attach to the peg on the stand, if it fails then its back to you steve ;-)

its quite a tricky project doing these stands, or im just not technically minded :-?

i have the clear resin had it for some time now so maybe if my attempt fails and steves works we can cast from steves mould?...maybe if you could cast this steve (see picture) it may work but any slight imperfections or roughness will show up on the finnished cast as im sure your aware of.

im afraid i cant get blank stands there produced in one hit injection moulded with the peg, i may have some without pegs but certainly not enough to cover the amount thats going to be required.

feel free to tell me this is a sh*t idea, but what about doing stands with indents in the shape of the flippers in? you know, so the flippers 'plug in' to the indent in the stand?

or is that not workable?
