Mutons

Post by blakeboyuk »

[b:d500flju]I love the Deep Sea divers too! And Muton was also one of my first Palitoy figures (until my dog chewed him up, lol).

Because Muton is as common as muck, we all probably take him for granted. But as Mr Muton has said, if you actually think about him, he is pretty damn cool!

I think all the Deep Sea Diver based figures have a certain element that we must love about AF. Totally ridiculous camouflage, a sort of archaic look - almost as if it could be from a Jules Verne Novel and also Mystery (with space, the sea provides the line with the most outlandish yet fun ideas ie Kraken.)

Even the blue, yellow and red packaging brings a smile to my face.

The colourful, unbelievable and yet oh so realistic world of Action Force. Long may it haunt my mind!!!

PS - Skeletron for ever!!!

Onto figures now, okay here goes:

Original: (No opinion on them)

Wave 1:

Best: Red Shadow (They looked just the right shade of evil, those helmets on Nazi stormtrooper bodies gave them the perfect look, very ominous)

Worst: Deep Sea Defender (Just never liked the look of it, don't really know why)

Wave 2:

Best: Q Force Sea Skimmer (okay the helmet is a bit dodgy, but he came with (in my opinion) a fairly cool mini vehicle)

Worst: Z Force Medic (Looks totally out of place with the other Z Force figures, and is one of the reasons I'm not interested in collecting Z Force)

It seems ironic that the Desert Rat and Australian Para are the most popular choices for best 1st release, I remember my local toy shop (back in the day) always had loads of them as they would not sell, the marine and para were the most popular, I think at the time reflecting the same popularity as the larger counterparts and the fact they the Australian and the rat did not fit into have their own vehicles so they were unplayable.

In the end when the shop was closing down they were selling them for 20p each and they had tons and tons, if only time travel was possible.

1st release fav British Marine
worst frogman (no good in a battle)

2nd release fav Z force Infantryman
worst frogman Muton (come on what was the point)

Alright, an ageing thread, but a good one.

Series One:
Best: US Paratrooper with parachute. (Endless fun as I remember. I think I spent an entire summer running back upstairs to my window to drop it on people walking by, or to try and land it off the roof into the paddling pool. He had a cool grease gun I believe was his. Did anyone other figure ever share that weapon?)
Worst: Naval Assault (always quick to die)

Series Two:
Best: Z force Radio Operator. (He could hide out all over the house sending secret reports of the cat's activity. Additionally, he could wear his hat backwards and forwards.)
Worst: SAS pilot (Actually a pretty cool figure, but somehow I had three of them, in addition to another red Mission Pilot, and between the four of them they didn't have one thing to fly. What were they supposed to do?)

Series Three:
Best: Space Engineer (Lots of bits)
Worst: Space Engineer (Lots of bits to lose)
