Restoration Questions
Restoration Questions
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help here with a couple of queries I have.
1) Does anyone know how to take a Rattler apart in order to swap out the nose wheel as my childhood one is broken and I'd like to fix it. Trial and error probably isn't a good idea with me as frustrations run high and things get broken.
2) Where is a good place to get replacement O-rings and back screws for the Hasbro Joes. Is it a case of getting a scrapper lot and salvaging them from there?
3) Anyone had any success with restoring a Skystriker's colour as mine had faded.

I think they had screws before but I no longer see them on the site.

Re: Restoration Questions
1. Got as far as just having the shell left but no luck with the nose wheel
Too much risk of breaking the chassis.
2. Some O-rings for sale on U.S Ebay. Gi Joe Heaven I think?
3. Skystriker, found they are prone to fading and yellowing..........Paint it red

G.I. Joe Heaven like scooby pointed out is your best bet for screws and o-rings, I bought some stuff from him a while back and I think it only took around 6 days to get here.

O-rings you can get on ebay: http://toys.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw ... osacat=246 I'm not seeing any in the UK at the moment but there normally are.
Found some screws too: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Back-and-Leg-Scre ... 286.c0.m14 but Andy1672 found a decent substitute in the UK: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4525
Lady Jaye had something to say about using peroxide on whites: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4619&start=13
The Rattler undercarriage is one of those nightmare parts - if it ain't broke don't fix it. The bluepints are here.

Re: Restoration Questions
Um... I got replacement O-rings from a normal hardware store...

Re: Restoration Questions
Thanks for the tips guys, I was looking for recommendations and you lot have come through. No one seems to be touching the front undercarriages on Rattlers though which is a shame. Interestingly the instructions on Step 7 seem to indicate that you put the rear undercarriage in the wrong way round. I wonder if this was a test like Meccano used to do in their instructions?

Re: Restoration Questions
Don't know if you have fixed your Rattler already, but I have replaced the gun on the front before. It left some creases on the body though. The way I went about it was soaking the nose in hot water after it reached a boil. You have to be careful when doing this, as if you leave the part in the hot water too long it can distort the piece. Once you get the part warm enough, the glue sometimes will let go some enough to pop the seam. I have had no luck on completely disassembling the Rattler, as I think it’s impossible to do with out breaking it somewhere, but you can pop the seam in places. Also remember if you try doing this is that don’t only try and pull apart the pieces as sometimes pushing them together with bring the desired result too. One problem I see you might have to work around is there is a pen peg piece or whatever you want to call it right in that section you need to pop open enough to work the old out and the new in. They don’t like to come apart at all from my experience, so I would say be careful there. Best of luck if you try it out.
