Who's This Character?
Just got a question about a character that I can't place. He's sitting on the tank and looks like Steeler, but that isn't Steeler's outfit. Is this a regular guy or something someone pieced together?

Well there is a long, very sad story involved here. About 20 years ago my Steeler figure was stolen by another kid. I was devastated as you can imagine, and as the Action Force line had gone 'GI Joe' by then so there was no way to replace him. I even wrote to Palitoy, but they replied saying they had none left (I've still got the letters).
I still had the tank, uzi, helmet and visor, so I decided to make the figure for myself. I used the Grunt figure that you got free with 5 medals as the base since his legs, waist and arms were the same mould. However his face always looked a bit sinister to me, so I swapped it with Flash's.
I played Dungeons & Dragons at that time too, and had a few basic paints for lead models. So I got the green, red and black together and hey presto - he looks today as he did then. Not bad for a nine year old, although the green was dictated by what I had, instead of trying to match the elusive Z Force Green!
When I started to expand my collection about six months ago, I debated buying an original Steeler to replace my repaint. Since I wanted to have complete troop of tanks, I eventually ended up buying one complete with Steeler and helmet/visor, and after 20 years the Greek was back in action! However since the Steeler repaint had served me so well as a child, I felt a bit sorry for him, so decided it was right and fair to use him as one of the other tank commanders. The slicked back brown hair of Flash's head and the fact that he was a super-shiny gloss green, lead me to style him on a British Cavalry Officer, and so Hussar was born. I gave the red helmet that came with the second hand Steeler to Shrapnel (thread here with images = http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/phpbb2/ ... .php?t=971 ), but kept the visor and repainted the Grunt's helmet in Gloss Red to match the rest of Hussar's uniform. You can see the difference in the two helmets in the picture above.
I've just got hold a third tank (which should hopefully arrive today) and am in the process of painting an AF Breaker as the third tank commander, Israeli born - name not decided.
Sorry the post was so long for what could have been a simple answer - but you did ask!

Thanks for answering so quick, jimbo! I thought that maybe I was missing out! Heh...
: Whew! I am still the one and only "swarthy Greek". Odysseus, Achilles, Herakles... They were all punks!
