2009 Convention set....who wants it?

Post by volleydan »

I have made the decision (and more importantly, gotten permission from 'the boss') to go to this year's GI Joe collector's convention in Kansas City. I know that the disappointment runs deep over this year's set with some collectors - especially those who were really hoping for a Red Shadows set - but I also know that there are others who are excited for this set.

Personally, I don't really like the set and I would rather sell it to recoup some of the cost of attending the convention. So if anyone wants to purchase my attendee set, let me know. I will be selling it for as close to my cost as possible plus actual shipping costs. I would like to collect the money before I go to the con if possible so I can use it for hotel and other travel expenses...which I know is a leap of faith for the buyer, but my rep is good in the community and I can give personal references if anyone wants them. I will also be willing to pick up any of the other attendee exclusives (whatever they turn out to be) for whoever buys my set, again as close to cost as possible plus shipping, and again on a prepad basis if we can get the prices ahead of time.

Before I make this offer anywhere else, I wanted to give you guys a chance to get this set. I would have to imagine that it's much more difficult for you to get one anywhere except EBay. If I don't hear from someone here by the end of the weekend, I'll start offering it on other boards.

That's very generous of you, Volleydan - thank you. When is the con?

Does anybody have a link for the set, please?

The convention is August 13-16. Here is a link to the Collector's Club's website that shows the figures that will be in the set:

The set is the twins, baroness, and twelve of the Vipers. They will update this page occasionally to reveal the box art for the set as well as some of the attendee exclusives.

If my club membership is still good, it will be $280. I don't know what shipping to the UK will run, but I have the con sets from last year and 2003, so I can go to the post office and get a pretty good estimate of what it might cost. My guess would be $25 or so, but that's off the top of my head. Add in about $5 for the cost of the packaging, and you're probably looking at a total of $310US or so for the set. Again, once someone shows strong interest in the item, I will get a more exact shipping quote. I was going to take payments via Paypal at volleydan@gmail.com

The loose sets are usually 1/2 of the price of the boxed sets, or at least in that range. Shipping would likely be much cheaper as well since they won't require nearly as large of a box.
