That was just a throw away comment made after Fallon ripped the pish out of the Russian carrier. ;)
What are peoples thoughts here on the new carrier(s)...

I think they are beautiful! A lot of thinks coming! I think they will have Osprey in SDSR 2020. I think they should have been fitted with Cat and Trap, I'm sure they will be retrofitted in the future. I think they will serve us well. Also, I think the Navy need to expand again and I think that'll happen too.
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

That sounds good and positive from someone who would know a lot more about these things than me. They look amazing and I suppose I want them to be as impressive as they look and ive seen a lot of negativity around it, perhaps more to do with the planes they'll carry.

I think the Russians make some visually impressive looking aircraft.. no idea how technically good they are.

They seem to have borrowed the :maf: logo for their new tank:

The Russian aircraft are brilliant SU 30 in particular.

A US Navy EP-3E Aries II (an EP-3 Orion with more antennae) was dawdling around Crimea monitoring SIGINT yesterday, as you do.

Image

So far, so good.

.... Until an SU-27 turned up and got "within five feet" of the EP-3 whilst crossing its flightpath.

Footage from aft of the EP-3's cockpit doesn't show the precise incident, but perhaps shows some of the preliminaries ....

More material on the EP-3 intercept up soon.

Russian Federation making political capital out of it today ... Crimea is Russia, these flights won't be tolerated etc. PS. we spent all our state pension fund on war and rimming the Han Chinese whilst getting shaken down by them to create the infrastructure to supply them gas at below the market rate, can you let us take over infrastructure in your markets if we bribe you enough ktnxdossvidanya.

Huge slow-moving target with bells on but with no planes, a beached whale that will break in three after one hypersonic - or several supersonic - missile hit/s (or a torpedo or two ..).

An aircraft carrier with no planes = taking back control.

:quick:

PS. due to various misconfigurations, the current system for landing the obsolete, overpriced planes it may carry one day (once paid for via barter in 1m ton batches of potatoes) will lead to a series of crashes of said lumbering, obsolete, shitbox STOL planes. 'Elf n safety won't be happy. Nor will the potato pickers in lumpen Lincolnshire, if there's anyone left to pick potatoes after recent departures.

Where's the aspirins?
