I very much doubt very much that, as he was released after :marine: , :2para: got a printed cap badge.. but would be loved to be proved wrong.

I'm assuming that was a response to my hypothetical 2Para with a cap badge!
Interesting, I didn't know that 2Para was released after Royal Marine.

What were the phases of release? And how do we know?
This could be of immense importance in our game of variants!

I don't think it's ever been confirmed yet.
Due to the fact that the no prototypes of :2para: :night: :fogsas: :2naval: :heli: or artic assault appear in promotional literature, are basically repaints & use recycled parts (& two which were never 12" VAM outfits) I've always assumed them to as being later releases.. kinda like a "Wave 1.5"... but I could easily be incorrect for assuming that.

Question for the M.O.C. collectors out there:

The archives only feature a :originalaf: card showing pictures of prototype figures & vehicles, do any :originalaf: backing cards feature pictures of the production toys & which figures appear on the backing cards of :night: & Co?

Another reason I believe there was a Wave 1.5 is the fact that Bob Brechin always states that his brief, for :originalaf:, was to create 3 3/4" versions of the 12 most popular Action-man outfits.

:Aussie: :marine: :commando: :deepsea: :desert: :frogman: :german: :ground: :pilot: :arctic: :origsas: :uspara: = 12

( O.K., I know, including :cmmdrold: they're 13 :originalaf: )

Oh my!
I had never thought of it in that way.

You make some very convincing points. Anyone with a greater AF mind than mine care to wade in?

Wave 1.5, expanding on the first, whilst preparation for AF proper was undertaken. Superb. Love this idea.

Also, it may explain why those first 13 figures had so many serious variants, as Wave 1 morphed into Wave 1.5, so all the variants popped up - simplification in decoration (Royal Marine, Scuba Diver, Stormtrooper, etc.), and the introduction of a new set of moulds (round mic version of Ground Assault, smooth fronted Commander, etc.). Many more too.
The last have only minor variations - Naval Assault is a serious one only because of the previous figures and their major changes.
This is something to think about.
Superb stuff Mr T

Another piece of evidence, which makes my theorise that there was a wave 1.5, is the fact that :night: & co aren't shown in 1982 the trade catalogue yet do feature in the 83 edition.

Just checked the catalogues, in the toy archives, it's hard to make out in the English edition but it does state that the :originalaf: range comprises of 9 mini figures

:Aussie: :marine: :commando: :desert: :frogman: :ground: :pilot: :origsas: :german:

:deepsea: :arctic: & :uspara: are listed as figures with play accessories.
