Re: Action Force Ownership
i'm not talking about reissues of the original figs but updated shads, action force using pre-existing molds from the gi-joe range similar to red jackal, red laser etc. looking at the range of customs on this site there are a wealth of possibilities for a whole new updated range of figs. bar convention exclusives hasbro are focusing on 25th designs so these already existing molds are redundant. it would seem to me that some kind of licencing option would be a win win situation for hasbro
another question: i know hasbro have stamped down on individuals using existing figs for their own molds so what kind of changes would need to be made to a fig to stop hasbro threatening legal action. i'm working on an sas custom using a firefly figure but have added extra grenades, pouches to the point were it no longer resembles firefly. if i made a few copies and sold these could i be in trouble?

I assume it's all gravy until you start selling them officially. Jamar has a point though, we don't want to anger them unduly, but we could word it so as to be non-offensive; something like instead of throwing them suggestions, ask them if they would be interested in seeing prospective designs from our customs team - give them the choice rather than demanding stuff.

Re: Action Force Ownership
absolutley, the last part of my post was purely personal. i'm interested in molding my own figs, equipment maybe set up a custom store but would want to mainly use gi joe as the base for my moulds. been toying around with the idea of a very basic figure but lots of equipment (grenades, pouches etc) and you can personalise the basic model anyway you want. a "no 2 figures are the same" sort of thingI assume it's all gravy until you start selling them officially. I'm just throwing ideas out here and enjoying the feedback. i havent been this excited by a toy range in a while and would love to see my kids playing action force

You could still use the techniques mentioned to make batches of new figures, instead of just one-offs.Double-tap wrote:i'm not talking about reissues of the original figs but updated shads, action force using pre-existing molds from the gi-joe range similar to red jackal, red laser etc.

PS. Over in customs there are several early AF characters made from GI Joes, if you'd like some inspiration.

Just start making them. IP will lapse on the originals soon, if not already.

Re: Action Force Ownership
ya I mean if Hasbro can loose the ROADBLOCK name im sure they were thinking of the AF guys and RED SHADOWSQuickfire wrote:Just start making them. IP will lapse on the originals soon, if not already.
if something was really done I would vote for a RED SHADOW as a first one because people can army build these and buy multiples
while I would love to have a Black Major most people would only buy one of maybe even two
so for the first one you would want it to be as profitable as possible. not that were trying to make money but recouping the cost would be great too LOL
I still say contact transforce or auto-assembly to see if they know of anything about using Hasbro stuff as exclusives
Still think a TRANSFORMERS/ ACTION MAN/ ACTION FORCE?/ UK GI JOE convetnion would be the way to go and geting things done
TRANSFORCE had the perfect name for it

Re: Action Force Ownership
The one thing we should all do is keep quiet and investigate the legal issues before doing anything precipitate (apart from getting the hell on with it on the quiet).
The law rather appeals to some of us.
Basically, no-one's been sued yet for making a custom. And there are many jurisdictions. Buying the (lapsed) rights would only give a green light to a dozy Hasbro litigation team. Fugg that. El Baroni has negotiated some understandings with IPC successors too which should be factored in...

Re: Action Force Ownership
agreed, doing a real legal search and investigation would have to be first, thats why asking the convention people first would be a good start
Re: Action Force Ownership
Well, I definitely think this should be our approach for the next Hasbro Q&A. One other thought is to ask Marauders and Alyosha how easy it is to make the damn things.
