Action Force Ownership

Post by Double-Tap »

Does anyone know who actually owns the rights to action force and the red shadows?
Would an independant toy company be able to produce toys under the action force banner?
How could someone claim a trademark or copyright on SAS for example?
I've looked online but can find no info and am just curious

From what I understand NO ONE actually owns the rights as hasbro let it lasp long ago and when you used the original logo not the later hasbro AF Logo this becomes even cleared as its a different copyright too

the RED SHADOWS maybe a hasbro thing now as they were used in the DDP comic but from what I understand it would only be in comic form and it would only be the 3 characters they used, so its possible someone else could use these guys as well too

you couldnt copyright SAS anymore so anyone could use it probally

basically another toy company probally could do it

I hate the fact that such a cool concept as the various branches of AF against the Red Shadows is wallowing in limbo. I wish an enterprising toy firm would have a crack at it but I just know it's a pipe dream.:(

just know it's a pipe dream
i have that dream too, thats why i'm asking. with all he cool customs people are making with old gi joe figs its reignited my passion for action force. but how would a group of enterprising 30 something year olds go about making this a reality? how much money would be involved? who would we (i mean they) approach? with hasbro making new designs for the 25th range, what about the old molds? surely it would be in hasbros best interests to licence these and make a few quid in the european market with a whole new and improved range of enemy and action force figs. i dunno i'm rambling a bit but i would love to see action force back on the shelves and a tie in comic by jamarmiller. just a dream

Heres is what I have been doing to make this a reality and thus I suggest anyone who is truly interested in bringing them back do these

1. Contacting Hasbro by e-mail and even phone letting them know ( be respectful praise them for what they are doing but let them know we want these characters back )

2. VOICE your support of the RED SHADOWS at IDW BOARDS let them know you want them in the comic ( theirs a poll over there right now PLEASE VOTE )

3. Tell your friends about the comic collections we are doing. let them read yours, tell them they can read them online for free! just get it out ! We dont want to make any money off the comic but the more people out there that are reading about them the more fans we will have to do all of these things! that is the big purpose of the colored editions!

4. CONTACT THE GI JOE CLUB and ask for them to do it

5. Participate in the Hasbro Q and A that we got going. Be respectful and relevant to what hasbro wants to do ( make money ) but think of questions that does that and also involves the RED SHADOWS and ACTION Force Characters ( ie we have a better chance of Quarrel being made than an Eagle )

6. Buy the Devils Due comics/ issues that featured the RED SHADOWS ( they might not be perfect but its a start and the reason Im even here on these boards! )

7. If you post on other GI JOE boards get in these characters names somehow in as many threads as possible. Make it relevant to the thread of course but if its a thread that ask " what repaints are we seeing in Wave 10" post something like Im really looking forward to the Glenda INternational repaints I just wish they would do a QUARREL from ACTION FORCE repaints

8. BUY THE INTERNATIONAL characters ( multipes???) that hasbro is doing ( RED NINJA ie SATAN, Ninja Ku, Pilot Scarlett ), if they see a spike in these type of things it wont be long till they turn to ACTION FORCE!

Ive been doing all these things the last 2 years and People may think I am a fanatic on other boards but its been done for this very reason of getting these guys and gals back ! and I cant do it alone, I need the fans to do this as well!

by the way we did get a panel showing AF in the GI JOE americas elite comic they showed Quarrel Hunter Moondancer and Blades ! so its worked to some extent!!

money would be huge, but again GI JOE COLLECTORS CLUB if 100 of us pleaded we might actually get somewhere with it

Hmmm, shared this exact same dream in a couple of other threads in the last month or so...

That way, we'd have proof that Hasbro (should they finally see fit to reissue these classic characters) wouldn't need to make expensive new molds from scratch!

If the customisers amongst you can come up with figures like these, why not Hasbro?

If your specific interest is the earliest Action Force characters, ( :levi: , :skip: , :eagle2: , and :skyraider: ), IE. the one's who were never GI Joes and whose ownership is in question... then maybe we should just ask Hasbro outright (during the next Q&A maybe?) if they own these chaps as well as the later characters, ( :duke: , :ace: , , :flash: etc).

I hope that helps...!

Agreed, we could ask if they actually still own the rights (which may explain why the Devil's Due Red Shadows were revamped), and if we could produce a range of our own under the existing title, and also if they would like to be affiliated.

Obviously it would be easier to get them to make the toys for us, I still think submitting colour designs for the existing moulds is a good idea.

dude that was my next question. i've checked online a bit and have a rough idea how the molding process works but dont know what to use to make the actual toys. i've hit a couple of model shops (1 guy is looking into it for me, hopefully hear something next week) but as soon as you mention 1/18 scale people look at you like you're not wise. also braved games workshop to ask about molds and blank transfer sheets but as soon as he heard i wasnt into 40k he wasnt interested

also, why wait for hasbro who seem to be focusing on 25th figs. would it be possible to licence various molds like palitoy and produce the figures ourselves something akin to the comic colouring project ie non-profit (all profits go towards licencing and materials), and distribute them directly from this board. BFTB presents Action Force. there seem to be a lot of talented, artistic people here and if a few of us got together and gave this some serious thought it may be possible. am i reaching here or do others think this is plausable?
