Think it's due in September, original release date was July (I'd even booked a week off work to watch the whole series, best laid plans of mice and men) but I think HMV are getting an exclusive release in July and the rest have to wait til September.

Not sure whether it's in HMV shops or just thru their website, a mate of mine of Cities of Gold from HMV first before it's normal release but I think he maybe regitered with their website or somesuch.

Can't wait though, do you remember when Brian May of Queen did a cover version of the theme tune and released it as a single? I think Eddie Van Halen no less played on it.

I don't think I really knew who Brian May was at the time. I cried when Shiro's old mentor was turned to the dark side. Do you remember Red Jackal making an appearance with his Deathball?

I bought a set on VHS on ebay a few years back, pretty ropey in places but I didn't care!

All the Look-In comics are online here.

Well thanks to my Auntie Shirley (I used to stay with her a lot as a kid when my Mum worked in the local shop), I acquired a knowledge and love of rock music from an early age, so I knew Queen, Bowie, Jethro Tull and Led Zep from being a wee nipper.

I think it was an ex-member of the Moody Blues who wrote the actual UK theme music and lyrics, but May rocked it up good style. I think May got the idea from his kids watching the show.

Thanks for the link, it's really cool (I shall be forwarding that on I can tell thee), I used to have Look In as a kid in the late 70s (on the back of Logan's Run tv series) so I have many fond memories of that magazine/comic. I seem to remember they did a Benny Hill comic strip in it.

Sadly when the show was shown in the 80s, I wasn't able to catch every episode (we had no VCR back then), so while I do remember that the Hero's mentor turned up as a bad guy, the plot didn't always make sense to me as I missed so many episodes. That's my main reason for wanting it on DVD.

Mostly I remember Barry Hercules so some bizarre reason, didn't he have an Afro and almost an Action Man combat suit?

I just remember it seemed to me that someone had taken two shows I really liked (Battle of the Planets and Thunderbirds) are mixed them together. Plus spaceships and giant robots, what's not to like?

It really was fantastic - the thing that set it apart was that is had an ongoing story from day one, the ghost ship was called the Skull and was one of the big mystery elements (I won't post any spoilers).

This was before the days of videos (at least in our house), can you believe I used to use a tape recorder? I'd insist the whole family sit there in abject silence while I held a microphone next to the TV for the whole episode!!!

Absolutely loved it, I just remembered I used to own a Dai-X T-shirt too! Can't wait!

I've got some helpful info on Brian May's Star Fleet Project, in case that's your cup of tea.

Written by Paul Bliss and covered by Brian May, it was originally released on vinyl in the summer of 1983, and did indeed feature Eddie Van Halen alongside Brian on guitar, with Roger Taylor providing wonderfully high-pitch backing vocals, (remember Bohemian Rhapsody, anyone? :skyraider: ). It featured three tracks, all of which were near-spontanious jams; Star Fleet, Let Me Out, and Blues Breaker. Its also rare as rockinghorse $#!t, as far as I can tell...

However, it was released on CD in 1992, and this version is much easier to find.

Brian released a two-part CD-Single for a song called Back To The Light. Disc Two was released, quite naturally, a week after Disc One.

Disc One (Parlophone serial number 7243 8 80381 2 6 CDRX 6329) features the songs Back To The Light, Star Fleet, and Let Me Out. Disc Two (7243 8 80380 2 7 CDR 6329) features Back To The Light, Nothin' But Blue (an instrumental bonus-track), and Blues Breaker... so you get the whole thing, plus more, over two discs.

This is much easier to find. I found one disc on a market stall and the other on ebay. Piece of cake! Worth every penny.

As for the show, I have an unofficial copy on DVD, (only because there WAS no official copy, 'til now). The bootleg is a good effort... but the REAL version will be worth the price just to prevent eye-strain.

I've got all 3 Brian May and Friends tracks on a Japanese CD, that was released some time in the 90s. It's called Brian May and Cozy Powell "Resurrection", but the last 3 tracks are the Star Fleet Project. I bouhgt it cheap off ebay from some chap in Japan, no-one else bid on it.

Nice to see it wasn't only me who had fond memories of the music

I saw Queen + Paul Rodgers at Hyde Park in 2005 and it blew my mind! They're touring again this autumn. Expensive as Hell, but we're going. Give 'em a go, you WON'T regret it!!!

Best live band I've ever seen has to be Dream Theater. Those guys seriously know how to play.

The Dance of Eternity / One Last Time - Roseland Ballroom, New York 30 August 2000

The bit at 4:26 where they start playing backwards completely bends my head.
