To my knowledge there are no resources on-line with scans of the Storm Force comic strips.

I can understand why people who grew up reading Action Force may have felt SF was a poor substitute, but I never got Battle regularly (huge fan of the toys but we were a one-comic-a-week household and my Dad grew up with Eagle, so that's what we got - since made up for it though). That is I never got Battle until my Dad bought the Storm Force debut issue home with him one day as a surprise.

I loved it from the start - mostly because of the art by the Vanyo brothers (who draw/ink a great machine gun imho), but also because of the imagination. Personally I think it deserves more credit than it gets. At the time it was hugely popular – when Battle merged with Eagle only three strips were carried over and two of them were reprints – Storm Force was the only strip to get all new stories.

I was fortunate enough to have some communication with two of the creators/writers a couple of years ago and they expressed a lot of fondness for the strip. They enjoyed the freedom they had with a creator owned strip, like being able to kill off characters (the Web Masters, and even one of the original team in one of the later story arcs) as opposed to some of the restrictions imposed when working on an owned property like Action Force.

Speaking of Action Force, two of the very few Battle Action Force issues I did have as a kid featured the School for Snakes story with :destro: and :baroness: facing off against :major: and the :shadow:'s. It’s drawn by Vanyo and is one of my favourite stories ever. Vanyo’s Red Shadows are some of the best drawn, plus a liked all the female Cobra students in tight black uniforms…but I’ve said too much.

Figure-wise, I'm sure they'd make great customs.

Would love to but were do you start? Stiletto may be the easiest one to do John Storm would need working but the Jungle BAT would be a great base figure.
Spock, where the hell's the power you promised?

I agree - it would be great to see some customs. Anyone got any ideas on how to tackle Porcupine?

Can we get some pics up of the characters, and I'll be able to suggest how to tackle them.

Well, been away from BFTB for a very very long time, came back to find something that I have been seeking for over a decade! I've scoured the web (ah, irony) for Storm Force for so long, and had more or less given up, only to find it at last.

Very happy about this indeed. Huge thanks.

This may have inspired me to look at my previously shelved idea for Storm Force customs. Porcupine is a bit tricky, but Road Pig and Magnus are a perfect match, surely?

I notice there's been nothing since May. Is this still ongoing? (No criticism by the way, we all have real lives, just wondering).

Hey Fozzie, welcome back!

My computer melted - literally. My PSU overloaded and took out my motherboard, my eight-core chip, a £300 graphics card, 2x 2TB hard drives and my watercooling unit. :( :( :(

The mobo and CPU are still under manufacturer's warranty, at least, so I'm hoping for either a repair or replacement, but I won't hear anything until next week - they've been with the supplier for 30 days now.

My mate has cobbled me together a basic PC that can just about handle going online, but crashes every time I open Photoshop. So, in answer to your question; yes, I'm still scanning, but I have a backlog of raw pages that need straightening, cropping, bleaching, etc.

I hope to have everything scanned and online in time for the 30th Anniversary next year. I've nearly finished scaning all of the Battle strips, I'm looking forward to the Eagle era as I've not read them myself.

I would LOVE to see some customs!

That's good to hear (not the computer breakdown, really sorry about that, but the fact that this still ongoing). After all these years I can be patient.

I wasn't aware of the team changes in later issues - is it allowed to ask who came in and who went or is that spoiler stuff?

It's been a while since I customised, and other things have taken over my life (marriage, daughter, boring stuff like that), but there's some thoughts crystallising in my head at the moment - we'll see.

There's no spoilers, when Battle comic got canned, the Storm Force strip was moved to the pages of Eagle, albeit only 3 pages per issue. I didn't read those as a kid, I've only collected them as an adult. I've flicked through them and all of the artwork is by Vanyo.

I think Mikron, Porcupine and either Magnus or Griffin were replaced but that was in the later Eagle issues during or after the Wildcat merger which replaced MASK
