New Bob Brechin & Brian Turner exhibiton - Final photos

Postby Red Baron » 20 Aug 2013 21:25

I'm pleased to announce that Bob Brechin and Brian Turner, both formerly of Palitoy, have put together a great new Action Force display over two cases at Snibston Discovery Museum, Coalville, Leicestershire; of course the town that was once home to the mighty Palitoy.

Bob, as you probably know, joined Palitoy in the late 1960s and was involved with Action Man as well as many other projects. Later, Bob led the Design Team, creating Action Force series 1 and 2. Brian was Palitoy's display manager and latterly helped out with Action Force, including designing the Sealion.

Case One profiles the process for producing an Action Force figure from sketch to production. As you'd hope, the display includes many one-off items, including Bob's concept sketch for Red Wolf (in the style of an original Ironblood concept sketch by Greg Hughes); a clay sculpt of Skeletron; British Commando painted model (as featured in the Brighton toy display and series 1 cardbacks); Red Wolf Body sculpting and tooling aid; and Space Engineer first shots and design pilot figure.

Case Two illustrates some of the background to the classic Roboskull (designed by Bob) and equally classic Sealion (designed by Brian). To the rear of the case appear a copy of Greg Hughes original Ironblood concept art, prototype and styling images for the Sealion and concept to production images for the Roboskull. Bob's pre-production resin Roboskull takes centre stage, still looking wonderful after 30 years and alongside are the production Roboskull and Sealion for context.

Why not come along to Snibston and take a look . . .

Brilliant stuff! Looks great. Would you be able to get closer photo's for those of us who can't get down?
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

No confirmed end date, but we've talked broadly about December / January, so there's plenty of time to visit for those who'd like to see it.
